Outgoing Queensland premier Steven Miles has conceded the election after an LNP victory.

Miles has this morning called David Crisafulli to concede his loss in the dramatic election, which has seen the end of Labor’s almost 10-year reign in the state.

The concession call marks a major change in government for Queensland.

The LNP was on track to win a narrow victory in Queensland following a heated count last night.

Crisafulli is set to become Queensland’s 41st premier after the night ended with 48 seats for the LNP.

”They have voted for a fresh start, and they have voted for a majority LNP government,” Crisafulli told supporters.

“To borrow a phrase from a different era and a different political movement, ‘It’s time’ — it’s time.”It was a time for a fresh start for Queensland.”

Last night Miles said Labor may have lost the majority but did not move to congratulate Crisafulli on his win.

He also said there was doubt the LNP could form a majority government.

Labor began the Queensland election holding 51 seats while the LNP had 35.

“We will know more as counting continues in coming days, many seats remain too close to call,” Miles said, flanked by his family on stage at the Murrumba Tavern.

“If you consider what we were up against, this is an extraordinary result.

“It was always going to be a challenging election for Labor but I have no regrets about the campaign or indeed my last 10 months as premier.”
