The “Oppenheimer” cast didn’t attend the New York premiere due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, but the party still went on.
On Monday, cast members Alex Wolff and Olivia Thirlby were spotted dressed to the nines as they celebrated with friends at The Richardson cocktail bar in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
A spy described them as being ready “for a night out” and told Page Six it seemed like the impromptu fête was for the film.
“They were having a party. There was a lot of laughter and they were taking selfies,” said the source, “They were with a small group of friends.”
Wolff even snapped a shot with fans. New York based comic and producer Lauren Lamphere posted the lucky shot and wrote: “screaming. crying. throwing up. met THE Alex Wolff last night.”

Meanwhile, the film’s Manhattan premiere was less starry across the bridge due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Director Christopher Nolan walked the red carpet with his wife Emma Thomas, sans the stars of the movie including Wolff, Thirlby, Robert Downey Jr., Josh Hartnett, Matt Damon, Rami Malek, Florence Pugh, Cillian Murphy and Emily Blunt. (Union actors are forbidden from promoting film and TV projects).
The stars did attend the premiere in London last week, but fled the scene early, Nolan told the crowd.
“I have to acknowledge the work of our incredible cast led by Cillian Murphy,” he said in a video Deadline tweeted from the event.
“You’ve seen them here earlier on the red carpet. Unfortunately, they’re off to write their picket signs for what we believe to be an imminent strike by SAG… Joining one of my guilds, the Writer’s Guild, in the struggle for fair wages for working members of their union, and we support them,” he added.
