Locals reported hearing multiple gunshots and seeing police running through a nearby park.

‘From what we could see, he lunged at them, police fired and then the paramedics came up,’ a bystander told the Courier Mail

‘This is definitely a first. We’ve just been told to stay inside.’

Police issued an exclusion zone from Old Toowoomba Road to Siemona, Oakhill and Ernest Street, with residents urged to stay indoors.

A crime scene was declared at Ernest Street about 1.10pm and the emergency declaration revoked just after 2pm.
