One man has died and another is seriously injured after a gyrocopter crash in NSW.

Authorities were called to Allworth, 35km north of Raymond Terrace, north of Newcastle at 4.30pm today after reports of an aircraft crash.

Police found one man dead at the scene.

A second man was found with serious injuries to his face and legs.

The aircraft only had two passengers, police said.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation is underway.
