A major crash has forced the closure of Queensland 's Bruce Highway just south of Bowen after a fiery collision (pictured) early this morning

One person has died and two others were injured after a fiery crash forced the closure of Queensland’s Bruce Highway just south of Bowen early on Monday.

Police and emergency services were called at about 5.55am to the intersection of the Bruce Highway and Scully Street following reports of a two-vehicle crash.  

‘One person was declared deceased at the scene,’ a Queensland Police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia. 

Two people were taken to Bowen Hospital with abdominal and pelvic injuries. Both are in a stable condition. 

Queensland Fire Department said the crash left one of the cars on fire but this was brought under control by 6.20am. 

The Bruce Highway at the intersection of Scully Street is closed in both directions while emergency services respond. 

Alternative routes for those travelling northbound via Drays Road and Bootooloo Road are in operation.

But the detours are only available for smaller vehicles. Large trucks and semi-trailer drivers have been told to wait until the road is cleared.

Motorist are asked to avoid the area and expect delays.
