Strong winds that sent wildfires ripping through the mountains and foothills around Los Angeles on Wednesday have fed a spectacle of smoke and flames.

Blazes in Pacific Palisades and Eaton destroyed homes, clogged roadways and strained resources as tens of thousands fled the areas.
