Jamikka Binge-Olive was allegedly bashed at a club in the state’s Northern Rivers and died a month after she was turned away from the hospital.
The 28-year-old mother-of-two was fighting off an alleged attacker in the bathrooms of the Casino RSM Club on June 23.
Her great-aunt Paula Coghill said the family was concerned for her safety.
“Jamikka was terrified for her life and so was her family,” she said.
Coghill told 9News the ambulance took 58 minutes to arrive.
Her brother instead drove her to Casino and District Memorial Hospital, where it’s alleged she was sent home with a stitch to her eye and paracetamol.
“We couldn’t understand why she wasn’t hospitalised, why she wasn’t kept in,” she said.
A month later, Binge-Olive was rushed to hospital after suffering a seizure in the car outside of Coles and died the same day.
“We want some accountability, we want some answers, and we’re seeking a public inquiry,” Coghill said.
A spokesperson for Northern NSW Health District has told 9News the matter has been referred to the coroner and it’s not appropriate to comment further.
Candice Drew, who was known to Binge-Olive, has been charged with assault over the alleged attack.
The 21-year-old faced Lismore Local Court on July 29 and was granted bail to face Casino Local Court next month.
A peaceful march is planned at the Casino Police Station on Friday.
Family and friends will gather to remember Binge-Olive while calling for a public inquiry into her death.
Binge-Olive is remembered by her family as a caring and loving sister, daughter and mother.
“Nobody smiled like Jamikka, and if you were coming towards her she made you feel like the most important person,” Coghill said.
Her family have set up a crowdfunding page in support of Binge-Olive’s children.
