The family of an elderly man killed on an early morning walk in a Queensland tourist town are appealing for anyone with information on his final moments to come forward.

Local John Kerr, 87, was found with severe facial injuries, lying face up on a boardwalk path on Hastings Street in Noosa Heads on Sunday morning.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen Kerr in the area or on a pathway to the beach at Noosa Woods between 5am and 7am yesterday to come forward as the investigation into the alleged assault continues.

“This is a tragic circumstance of an elderly male going out for his morning walk,” Sunshine Coast Detective Inspector Chris Toohey said on Sunday.
