Graziano said that while he misses the two little guys that he often refers to as the “beans,” he still feels very fulfilled because he was able to enjoy his time with them and got them successfully to their forever homes.

“Fostering was one of the most rewarding things that I’ve ever done, and I totally and wholeheartedly recommend it,” he said. “And I wanted to share some things that I learned in my experience fostering.”

He explained that what he is about to share is “skewed towards puppies” since he fostered two young pups, but he wanted to share some tips because he hopes to “encourage you to foster if you’re thinking about it.”

Graziano explained that some of his tips will be super obvious, and that they were obvious to him, but in hindsight.

“So one of the first things I learned, and I learned this the hard way, is that although it’s really fun to go ape buying thing for your little foster puppies, and like yes, they had all the toys they could ever want, they had great food, they had lots of blankets, I laundered all of Noodle’s beds that they could sleep in,” he said. “I didn’t think about like buying stuff for me. I didn’t think about me at all.”

He gave the example that towards the end of his time fostering, he had paper towels, a small trash can with a lid, and Nature’s Miracle in every single room the puppies had access to in case they had an accident.

“What that would do is A. I’d be able to clean it up faster and B. it kept the puppies from chasing me through the mess, cause what would happen is they would have an accident in like this room where they stayed,” he explained. “I would go get the cleaning stuff from my bathroom and they would chase me to the living room and they’d track all that stuff with them.”

Another tip Graziano shared was about socks. Yes, you read that right – socks.

“I am someone who is quite precious about my socks. I’m a wool sock person. I wear wool socks and boots every season no matter what the temperature is, you couldn’t pay me in diamonds and gold to walk around New York City in an open toe shoe,” he said. “However, the puppies would bite them, I would step in pee, and that’s how I would find it and you just have to surrender your socks.”

His last tip was to ask tons of questions to the organization you’re fostering from.

“If you’re planning to foster, do your research on that agency first, the foster that you’re going to be working through,” he said. “They make all the difference. I had such a great experience with these people and taking care of these dogs and it was one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done and I encourage you to do so as well.”
