NJ ‘mule’ busted at JFK trying to smuggle cocaine worth $100K: feds

There was coke in the smokes.

A New Jersey man was busted at JFK Airport after authorities discovered nine pounds of cocaine — worth an estimated an estimated $100,000 — hidden in two cartons of Marlboro cigarette boxes, federal authorities said.

Jose Luis Garcia Miranda, 33, was arrested Dec. 15 shortly after his Delta Airlines flight from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, landed around 11:30 p.m., according to a Brooklyn Federal Court filing.

Miranda had a carry-on suitcase, backpack and two duty-free bags, according to the complaint.

During a check of a pair of duty-free bags, US Customs and Border Patrol officers found the four bricks of coke wrapped in plastic concealed inside the two cartons, the filing said.

Miranda told cops he was paid $6,500 to be a mule, the feds allege.
