Whether you’re into thrills, drama, or otherworldly whimsy, this week on streaming truly has something for everyone. One of the biggest releases of the entire month is the highly-anticipated second season of Max’s The Last of Us, which sees Pedro Pascal back in a post-apocalytpic, collapsing society. Then there’s the more grounded-in-reality story of Your Friends and Neighbors, a new Apple TV+ Original series starring Jon Hamm as a down-on-his-luck man who turns to illegal activities to support his family. For a bit more levity to brighten up even the April showers outside, look no further than Doctor Who: Season 2 on Disney+, which will introduce fresh and fantastic adventures for Ncuti Gatwa’s titular alien Doctor. Three very different shows that are all united by their status as must-see titles for this weekend.
Not sure which new releases to check out? Let us here at Decider help you figure out what to watch this weekend and where to stream it.
New Movies & Shows To Stream This Weekend:
Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Kaitlyn Dever, Gabriel Luna, Rutina Wesley, and Young Mazino look to lead the way in Max’s The Last of Us: Season 2, which premieres on the platform at the end of this weekend. You can catch the first two episodes of Your Friends and Neighbors starting today on Apple TV+ to see Jon Hamm breaking laws and taking names in the new title. And on Disney+, the long-running and beloved British series Doctor Who returns with the premiere of its sophomore season. All three shows have weekly episode rollouts, so even if you catch up with one of them this weekend, you can still watch the others (plus the additional titles on this list) to kill time until the next episode drops.
New on Max April 13: The Last of Us: Season 2
Pedro Pascal returns as hardened survivor Joel Miller for a second season of the post-apocalyptic drama that takes place five years after the events of Season 1. The Last of Us: Season 2 follows Joel and immune 19-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsey) as they are drawn into conflicts both with each other and the rest of the world amidst a new place while still trying to escape the reach and effects of a terrifying pandemic that turns humans into zombie-like monsters. Will they ever regain the closeness they once shared? Or will calamity befall them before they ever get the chance?
Your Friends and Neighbors is a premiering Apple TV+ Original drama series that stars Jon Hamm as Andrew “Coop” Cooper, a New York hedge fund manager who is at a major turning point in life. After getting divorced and losing his job, Coop begins to rob his rich neighbors in order to maintain his family’s affluent lifestyle, only to find that something sinister might be lurking behind the glossy facades of his own community.
New on Disney+ April 12: Doctor Who: Season 2
Ncuti Gatwa returns as the Fifteenth Doctor to resume his trademark alien Time Lord mischief and mayhem in Doctor Who: Season 2. This season, the Doctor meets his new companion, Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu), launching an exhilarating new expedition to get her back to Earth. But with a mysterious force preventing their return, the duo must face fresh obstacles, foes, and dangers that will challenge our dear Doctor like never before.
