A second product recall has been issued over a popular Emma Wiggle light-up headband sold in toy stores and at The Wiggles’ live performances over a nine-year-period.
Parents and carers are being warned to immediately stop using the product and put it out of reach of young children due to the “risk of choking, serious injury or death”.

The yellow headband comes with a yellow and black bow with four built-in flashing lights.

The Emma Wiggle headband comes with a light-up bow, but the button batteries inside aren’t adequately secured, says the ACCC. (ACCC Product Safety)

It also lacks a label warning users about the dangers of button/coin batteries to children, meaning parents may not even be aware that it contains button batteries.

The recall notice extends the dates of an earlier recall issued on August 24, with the problematic toy now being confirmed as having been sold between November 1, 2015, and March 24 of this year.

The recalls comes as experts call for a redesign of button batteries, after an Australian study released in August found 35 children globally – including three in Australia – and one adult have died as a result of ingesting the small, round batteries.

The Australian government introduced mandatory safety and information standards around their use in 2022.

The Emma Wiggle headband has been sold in toy stores, online and at The Wiggles’ live performances around the country since 2015.

It was sold at a range of retailers including: Aussie Toys Online, ABC Kids Paradise, Etcetera Home & Gifts, J & P Designs, LatestBuy, Mighty Ape Limited, Nextra Kalgoorlie Newsagency, Rugs N Timber, Sanity, True Blue Toys Australia, and Tates Toyworld.

Consumers can contact CA Australia on recall@caaustralia.com.au or call 02 9938 5011 to arrange for a free return and full refund of the toy.

Emma Watkins performed as Emma Wiggle, and was part of the popular kids band from 2010 to 2021.
