If you’re looking for some seriously entertaining new movies on VOD this weekend, we’ve got you covered. This week’s selections include the dark comedy The American Society of Magical Negroes, as well as the sexy thriller Strictly Confidential, and a whole host of Hallmark movies, documentaries, and everything in between.
Also out this week on demand is director Molly Manning Walker’s debut feature How To Have Sex, a coming of age movie about a group of teenagers from England who head to Greece for a spring break holiday. As the trio of girlfriends have one last hurrah before finishing high school together, but the resulting trip is a complicated mess of debauchery and troubling sexual exploits rather than a fun-filled good time, and the drama encapsulates that time during young adulthood when you’re not a girl, not yet a woman.
These are just a few of the films that are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube, and through your cable service this week. Check out what movies are available to buy or rent on demand now.
The American Society of Magical Negroes is a darkly comedic satire that takes aim at the all-too-common trope of the Magical Negro in American pop culture. In the film, directed by Kobi Libii, Justice Smith plays Aren, a young man who is welcomed into a secretive organization of Magical Negroes whose mission is to make the lives of white people better. The ensemble cast includes David Alan Grier, Nicole Byer, Drew Tarver, and Rupert Friend.
If you’ve heard anything at all about Strictly Confidential, it’s probably the tidbit that the film’s star, Elizabeth Hurley, filmed some sultry sex scenes that were directed by her own son, Damian. 22-year-old Damian Hurley wrote and directed the film about a young woman, played by Georgia Locke, who visits a Caribbean island to stay with the family of her dead best friend and while staying in the tropical paradise, she unravels the truth about her friend’s mysterious suicide.
