The Issue: The Pentagon’s response to numerous unidentified drones sighted flying above New Jersey.
A Pentagon spokesperson said the dozens of drones flying over New Jersey are not US military (“Close Encounters of the Turnpike,” Dec. 12).
That may be a true statement — but may not be the whole truth.
There should have been some follow-up questions by the reporters. They should have asked if the drones are being flown by any other branch of the US government, including but not limited to Homeland
Security, the FBI, NSA, CIA, DIA, Secret Service, etc. They should also have asked if they are being operated by a contractor hired by any government agency.
Bottom line: If the government knows nothing, then a few Army Apache AH-64 helicopters should be ordered to shoot the drones down so we can evaluate the risk.

It appears the unknown drones flying over New Jersey are doing reconnaissance — and our government claims to have no idea why?
Is the administration waiting for them to start flying into buildings? Why are they still flying at all? Has anyone told President Biden — or is he only signing pardons these days?
I would love to know the answer to these questions, as would the rest of the American people.

The talk of the town, or at least the towns of New Jersey, is all about drones. But oddly enough no one has any definitive answers.
When the Chinese balloons were in the news the issue did finally get the attention of the government — after the balloons had invaded our airspace for a fair amount of time.
My prediction: Whoever is responsible for the drones is not a threat. If this did pose a threat, Trump would be tweeting like crazy, especially when the drones are spotted right near his backyard in Bedminster.

These drones are perhaps being used for surveillance or maybe something more sinister. They could pose a threat to our security, yet our government seems unable to cope. It’s scary.

The Issue: FBI Director Christopher Wray announcing he will resign at the end of Biden’s term.
The coming resignation of FBI Director Christopher Wray is another “ray” of hope in the aftermath of Donald Trump’s landslide victory (“Wray Bows to Reality,” Editorial, Dec. 12).
America’s “deplorables” will no longer be targeted with daybreak knocks on their front doors and spies in school-board meetings and church gatherings, nor suffer the rummaging through underwear drawers. Adios Chris. Take Attorney General Merrick Garland with you.

On Wednesday, Christopher Wray announced he will resign as director of the FBI. Appointed seven years ago by Donald Trump, Wray is the epitome of a “deep state” bureaucrat.
He is arrogant, self-concerned, pugnacious and irritable when challenged in any way. He is “always right.”
Wray is a Republican, but he served the Biden administration with a biased pugnacity, especially on matters concerning our borders.
Wray was dismissive when Congress questioned his effectiveness in recognizing and arresting migrants either with criminal records or as drug smugglers.
Wray said claims of FBI laxity and indifference were wrong, weaknesses that Kash Patel, Trump’s FBI nominee, will not allow. Time will tell.
