Apple has this morning sent invites to select media to an event at its company headquarters in Cupertino, south of San Francisco. That event is assumed to be where the next generation iPhone 16 will be announced.

Announcing the new iPhone in September is not unusual, the date follows a strong trend over many years, except Apple doesn’t normally announce it’s new devices on a Monday in the United States.

The event takes place on September 9 at 10am in the US, which Is 3am on Tuesday, September 10, for Australians.

It’s thought the change of date is a last-minute move by Apple to avoid a clash with the first presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump the following day.

Apple’s next iPhone is believed to feature a new camera shutter button on the right hand side of the screen to make selfies and general photography easier, and also bring photography back to the forefront of the device’s features.
