Two people have died after a car crashed into the side of a hospital in Sydney’s west.

Police said a woman in her 60s allegedly reversed into another car before lurching forward and hitting a pedestrian, a woman believed to be in her 40s, outside a multi-storey car park near Nepean Hospital near Penrith at around 3.20pm on Thursday.

Both tragically died in the incident. They were members of the public rather than medical staff.

It is believed the driver suffered a medical episode, while a woman in her 30s in another car was treated for shock after witnessing the incident.

NSW Police and NSW Ambulance paramedics are on the scene, and investigations into the cause of the crash are underway. It is understood they will be analysing CCTV.

While Nepean Hospital remains open, patients, visitors and staff are being asked to avoid the area outside the multi-storey car park on Derby Street, Kingswood.

Video from the scene showed the vehicle lodged at an angle between a concrete pillar of the carpark and a brick wall of the hospital building.

White sheets had been placed over the car windows.

Karen McKeown, MP for Penrith, said: ‘Thoughts and prayers for those involved. My heart breaks for those families who lost their loved ones today.’
