Elliott, who began his radio career on 3RR in 1993, has been in 3AW’s drive slot for 10 years and will begin as host of the morning show in January 2024.
3AW’s station manager Stephen Beers said Elliott will build on the standards that Mitchell had set for the time slot.
“Tom is the perfect choice to receive the baton from Neil Mitchell and build on his legacy of championing our listeners, holding politicians and business to account, and celebrating our great city of Melbourne,” he said.
Elliott said he couldn’t wait to start his new role, in what he has always considered to be the “gold standard” of radio.
”It’s a huge honour to succeed Neil Mitchell in hosting 3AW Mornings,” he said.

“Ever since I started at the station in 2002, Neil has been the gold standard for how to host this iconic talkback show. I have always looked up to Neil, and cannot wait to talk with the Mornings audience in January 2024.”
Following Elliott’s move to the morning slot, Jacqui Felgate will move into the station’s drive program.
Neil Mitchell will finish up as host of 3AW Mornings in December, to pursue other projects within the Nine business.
