My eye-opening sports ceiling Moment came at the hands of soon-to-be Hall of Famer

Some news items hit you differently than others. This one hit me different, late last week.

“Also selected for enshrinement to the Naismith Hall of Fame … Chicago Bulls coach and two-time NCAA champion Billy Donovan.”

And that goes beyond the fact that Donovan and I grew up similarly, he in Rockville Centre and I in West Hempstead, and are both products of the rugged Long Island Catholic League that was such a dynamic force in the ’70s and ’80s.
