Christine Formosa Rakic, 53, was found dead at her ex-partner’s home in Rooty Hill about 8.30pm on Tuesday after a family member called police concerned about her welfare.
Rakic had died before police arrived.
Superintendent Steve Egginton from NSW Police said on Wednesday that Rakic had suffered “significant injuries”.
A 50-year-old man known to Rakic was found with injuries to his throat and arms.
He was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition under police guard.
Police have now charged the man with domestic-violence-related murder, contravening a prohibition or restriction in a domestic-violence-related apprehended violence order and breach of bail.
He was refused bail to face Mt Druitt Local Court via audio-visual link today.
A friend of Rakic described her as “wonderful and kind” while her family told 9News she was a “very good person” who didn’t deserve to die.
