For many Taylor Swift fans, attending the Eras Tour is an unmissable opportunity.

But for Queensland mum Tamara Gray, it is an experience she is forgoing because of a life-changing phone call she received en route to the singer’s first Sydney show.

“I got a call from the hospital saying they had a kidney,” she said.

The 35-year-old had been on a register for a kidney transplant and never expected a donation to become available as she headed to Gold Coast Airport this morning to board a delayed flight to Sydney.

Her phone started to ring just after 8.30am, 10 minutes after her original departure time.

“I won’t lie, there was a split second that I considered saying no [to the kidney], but, you know, I’m not crazy,” she said.

“I have something called IgA nephropathy, so it’s actually an autoimmune disease that attacks my kidneys.”

The timing was somewhat of a miracle for Gray.

“Obviously it was meant to be,” she said.

“Because if I was on that flight, basically I would’ve missed the call and there’s only 30 minutes to answer otherwise they move on to the next recipient.

“I spend 15 hours a week predominantly on dialysis every week.”

Her friends decided to still attend the show however there is no bad blood between them.

“Now that I can travel after I’ve had a transplant, my friend said ‘well we’ll just go see her in Europe or something’,” Gray said.
