A Perth mother is pleading for a driver who ran over her 12-year-old daughter as she walked to school to hand themselves into police.

Alexis Lloyd’s collarbone and leg were broken on impact but the driver did not stop after hitting her at a pedestrian crossing.

The 12-year-old was hit in front of a traffic warden just five minutes after her mother, Tory Carter, dropped her at Willetton Senior High School.

Carter rushed to her daughter, who repeatedly asked her “am I bleeding, Mum?”.

“Obviously she was in a bit of shock and quite shaken,” Carter said.

“She was on the ground with a big crowd of people around her so pretty scary.

“You just sort of feel helpless and you can’t do anything, it’s not a nice feeling.”

Alexis remains in hospital three days after the incident, requiring surgery on a broken leg and collarbone.

Carter said she felt “angry” the driver remained at large.

Officers are now appealing for dash cam between 8am and 9am on Tuesday morning.

“It’s hard to fathom that somebody would collide with a child and not stop,” she said.

Alexis will use a wheelchair for the next six weeks and her home will need to be modified but her family is grateful she escaped with her life.

“She was so unlucky but she’s so lucky at the same time,” Carter said.

“Things could have been so, so much worse.”
