Paul Cannon, 55, stabbed his estranged wife Lynn, 51, numerous times in their Landsdale home in Perth in December last year, resulting in her death.
The court heard how Cannon grew jealous having learnt of his wife’s new relationship two years after she left him.
Cannon grabbed Mrs Cannon by the hair and stabbed her seven times before attempting to end his own life following hours of arguing.
Police arrived an hour and 15 minutes after the first call for help.
The Supreme Court Judge Anthony Derrick considered Cannon’s guilty plea and lack of criminal record when delivering his sentence.
Derrick described the offence as ”intolerable”, “abhorrent” and “abusive”.
On Friday, the convicted killer was sentenced to life in prison with a non-parole period of 19 years.
Mrs Cannon’s friends and family erupted in cheers when her killer was sentenced to life behind bars.

Her loved ones also called Cannon “a maggot” as he was taken to prison from the courtroom.
Mrs Cannon’s four sisters remembered her as a mother of two while also calling on the state government for more action on domestic violence.
“We were all failed,” they said.
“The knowledge that she could have so easily been saved has greatly increased our pain and suffering.
”We were still waiting to hear what took precedence over Lynn’s life that night, there is an oath to serve and protect and Lynn was failed.
“It’s good to finally close that chapter in our lives.”
“There are always people in need – but this time Lynn was let down and Lynn died,” he said.
Why it took police an hour and 15 minutes to respond to the call will form part of a coronial inquiry.
