Paramedics are assessing several people, including some with “life-threatening injuries”, after the crash in the Wilson Creek Rest Area on the Bruce Highway at Gumlu just after 11am.

Emergency services were called to the scene after reports the vehicles had collided.

“Two rescue helicopters have also been tasked to the scene,” Queensland Ambulance Service said in a statement.

A Queensland Police spokesperson said the Bruce Highway is closed in both directions at Gumlu, north of Bowen.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area or expect long delays.
