Police are hoping to find a motorcycle they believe was used by John Latorre’s killer after the suspected underworld shooting in Melbourne last week.
Detectives are searching for the person who shot Latorre in his upper body as he left his home on Buchanan Place in Greenvale about 4.30am on March 12.

The execution-style ambush happened as the fruiterer, who ran a fruit and vegetable wholesale business at the Melbourne Market in Epping, left for work.

He had opened his garage door to go to his car when he was shot.

A family member found his body at the property and no one else was injured in the targeted attack.

Victoria Police said it was unclear how many people were involved in the shooting but believed the gunman was riding a motorcycle.

Detective Acting Inspector Nigel L’Estrange said police were working through all the circumstances surrounding the murder but were keen to find the motorcycle.

The motorcycle has been described as potentially a smaller model and police were told it made a loud noise while being ridden.

“Those responsible for this murder had absolutely no concerns deliberately discharging a firearm in a suburban street, regardless of what impact it may have had on innocent parties, so we are keen to locate the offender or offenders as soon as possible,” L’Estrange said.

L’Estrange said detectives believed people driving in Greenvale may have seen the motorcycle around the time of the shooting at 4.30am.

“Given the circumstances of what happened it may have been ridden erratically or at speed so if you saw anything then we want to hear from you,” he said.

“From the footage that has been reviewed already, we know there was quite a bit of traffic around even at that early time of the morning.

“We are doing everything we can to try and identify those involved however we need the community’s help.”

Police were concerned about revenge attacks last week.

No arrests have been made at this stage.
