Teenager is shot dead after a fight in Newcastle

A couple have been killed after they were struck by a car while parked in an emergency lane on a major highway.

The 24-year-old man and 31-year-old woman were travelling southbound on the Forrest Highway, in South Yunderup, Western Australia, on Sunday.

The pair parked their car in the emergency lane at about 6.20pm and had exited the car when a dark blue Volvo station wagon travelling in the same direction crashed into them.

The driver of the Volvo immediately called emergency services and stopped at the scene to assist the pair.

The man and woman died at the scene.

It is unclear why the pair had parked their car, but it has been reported that they were on their way to a Mother’s Day celebration.

Major Crash investigators are examining the scene to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, has dashcam or mobile phone footage, is being urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
