Michael Knaap has resigned as chief executive, managing director, and director at the IVF giant.

Knaap had been the chief executive since 2019.

Earlier this week, Monash IVF revealed a mix-up whereby a patient in Melbourne had their own embryo “mistakenly transferred” back to them, rather than one belonging to their partner.

The incident took place on June 5.

It followed a revelation two months prior that another mixup had seen a woman in Brisbane carry a stranger’s child to term.

An independent review is underway for both incidents, though it’s understood they took place years apart.

Monash IVF chief financial officer Malik Jainudeen has been appointed acting chief executive.
