Pro-Palestinian protesters have disrupted Chanel Nine’s Carols by Candlelight extravaganza, by storming the stage and snatching the hosts’ microphone.

During the broadcast at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl, hosts David Campbell and Sarah Abo were drowned out by chants of ‘Free Palestine’.

Moments later several demonstrators with Palestinian flags stormed the stage as cameras cut away to a wide shot.

‘While you’re carolling kids are dying in Gaza!’ a voice screamed into the microphone before security dragged her away, along with the other protesters.

A stunned Campbell tried to ease the tense situation as young families watched on in horror.

‘Take it easy, it’s okay,’ Campbell said. ‘Everybody relax and settle down.’

‘Everyone is aloud to have their say but we do have kids here, we just want to make sure those kids are safe, they will be back out here in a second,’ he added, referring to the stage performers.

‘It is a very hard time in the world at the moment and there is a lot of pain out there.’

Security and the hosts were praised for their handling of the ordeal.

But many viewers lashed out at the protesters calling it a ‘disgrace’.

‘The protest at carols is an interesting choice, especially while there were children on stage. I’m incredibly impressed at how it was handled by the hosts,’ one person wrote on X.

Another said: ‘What a disgrace to try and spoil a great night of Christmas cheer for everyone, this isn’t a place to do it.’

A third added: ‘I’m all for people voicing there opinion, but there is a place and time and an event full of children is not it.

‘I don’t condone nor agree with what is happening to innocent people in Palestine but I also don’t agree with this.’
