Brisbane woman Julia-Mary Lane has been found dead after going missing while hiking in the Canadian wilderness.

Lane, 25, vanished after she travelled to British Columbia from the town she was living in Alberta, for a week-long road trip.

Her housemate flagged Lane’s disappearance after she failed to return from a hiking trip at Bear Lake near the town of Kimberley.

This morning her brother Conor said Lane had been found dead “in an unfortunate hiking accident”.

“We have lost our beautiful baby girl, Julia-Mary RIP, in an unfortunate hiking accident,” he said in a social media post.

Janet Hamilton, Lane’s housemate in Canada, contacted the Australian woman’s family after she failed to return from Bear Lake, a popular hiking area.

Lane had not responded to any phone calls or messages from her family since Saturday.

The Lane family contacted Royal Canadian Mounted Police and they found her car, a Ford Escape SUV, at the Bear Lake Trail head.

Deploying dogs, drones and search and rescue teams, police conducted a large search around Bear Lake.

Police confirmed this morning her body had been found today, and that her death was not considered suspicious.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased,” a police spokesperson said.

Lane relocated to Canada from Brisbane in January.
