The driver of a car that smashed into another car in Sydney’s south-west, badly injuring a woman and three children, was allegedly going 140km/h at the time, police have said.
Seven people in total were taken to hospital after a sedan and an SUV collided on the intersection of Milperra Road and Cooraban Road in Milperra just after 2am on Saturday.
The three children, aged 10, 14 and 15, and a woman in her 40s were trapped in the SUV after the collision and had to be extracted by Fire Rescue NSW.
On Sunday afternoon, police alleged the sedan driver had been seen by officers travelling at 140km/h in a signposted 70km/h zone.
‘Officers activated lights and sirens just as the sedan collided with a 4WD,’ police said in a statement.

Paramedics were called to a ‘high speed crash’ at the intersection and raced the occupants of the SUV to hospitals in Westmead with serious injuries.
The driver of the sedan, an 18-year-old man, was taken to Liverpool Hospital under police guard for mandatory testing.
His two passengers, both 18-year-old men, were taken to Liverpool Hospital with minor injuries.
While the injuries suffered by the woman and children are considered serious, police say they are not life-threatening.
Photographs from the scene on Saturday afternoon show piles of rubble mixed with what appear to be items of clothing and other knick knacks.

Nearby strewn shards of glass and metal, a plastic green p-plate could be seen.
Police have established a crime scene and inquiries are ongoing.
