A Michigan woman was mauled by her pet Rottweiler earlier this month in a vicious hour-long tussle that left her house carpeted in blood after she fed the canine a THC-laced gummy.
The unidentified woman told authorities that 2-year-old Blau pounced on her almost immediately after she slipped him the THC, the psychoactive substance in marijuana that is toxic and sometimes lethal to canines.
Blau followed his owner into the bathroom “while she was on the toilet and ripped her off the seat,” according to an incident report obtained by The Smoking Gun.
The intoxicated 82-pound canine and the woman battled for roughly an hour inside the house in Gaylord, a city 50 miles south of Cheboygan, before she was able to lock herself in her bedroom “and leave the dog running the house.”
The owner called 911 to report the dog attack, but Blau was “subdued, not barking or growling” by the time EMS and animal control officers arrived.
Blau tried to run from Animal Control Officer Melissa FitzGerald and her partner, who were both carrying catchpoles, but was easily corned and secured.
“At no time did the dog act aggressive or bark at ACOs,” she wrote.
FitzGerald then walked to the bedroom to safely remove Blau’s owner and noticed an “immense amount” of blood seeping on the carpets, floors and walls.
“I witnessed the victim laying face up on the bed covered in blood,” FitzGerald said. “The room was semi-dark but I could see an extreme amount of blood on the bed as well as the walls and floor. The victim said she could not get up.”
The woman was airlifted to a medical center 60 miles away, where she underwent emergency surgery, was intubated and placed in the intensive care unit.

She almost lost her right arm in the attack, but doctors were able to save it — though “there is not much left of the area between her shoulder and her elbow,” the report states.
The woman’s father later told officials he had bought the gummies for Blau because his daughter was going through a “bad divorce” and that Blau was “very stressed.”
THC is considered a poisonous substance for canines that can cause a number of severe reactions ranging from lethargy to vomiting, as well as extreme agitation, according to the American Kennel Club.
Blau already had a history of aggression and was reported as “lunging and growling and trying to bite” during a March 2023 visit to the vet.
Some of the men in the victim’s family asked FitzGerald if they could pick up Blau from the shelter to kill it, but the animal control officer warned that was against the law.
The woman’s estranged husband called under the guise of trying to “rescue” Blau, stating he wanted to “try to rehab him” before learning FitzGerald did not favor allowing Blau to live and would take the case to court.
The husband then changed his tune and straightforwardly asked whether he could euthanize Blau himself by shooting him, but was rejected.
The woman and her estranged husband ultimately agreed for Blau to be euthanized by the veterinarian.
She and her parents visited the shelter 11 days after the attack to say their goodbyes to Blau before he was humanely put down.
