Evan Roberts is not satisfied with the performances of high-priced free agent acquisitions Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander as Mets — not even a little bit.
Roberts sounded off on his Audacy podcast, “Rico Brogna”, last week after Verlander’s latest poor outing versus the Braves.
“I’d say it’s unbelievable but it’s not unbelievable! They find new ways to lose,” Roberts said. “Now the offense wakes up, Justin Verlander takes a giant turd all over the Mets’ chances.”
Verlander gave up five runs — four of them earned — in just three innings against Atlanta on Thursday night, in a game the Mets heartbreakingly lost 13-10 in the 10th inning on a three-run homer by Ozzie Albies.
Roberts proceeded to go off on Verlander and Scherzer.

“It was a collective fail by the bullpen and Justin Verlander. The Mets spend $90 million on these two mercenary pieces of crap who’ve done nothing,” Roberts continued.
“Max Scherzer’s pretended to do something because his overall numbers are good and he’s had some really good starts. But think about what he did last year … Max Scherzer pitched well, missed a big chunk of time, and then when they needed him the most against the Atlanta Braves and then in the playoffs against the Padres, he wasn’t bad, he was awful.”
Verlander, 40, signed a two-year deal worth a total of $86.6 million this past offseason after winning the AL Cy Young award with the Astros last year.
Scherzer, 38, is in the second season of a three-year pact worth $130 million.
Scherzer and Verlander are slated to start for the Mets Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, at Citi Field in the Subway Series versus the Yankees.
