Memphis man shoots wife then drives her to hospital — but stops for beer along the way: cops

A man in Memphis shot his wife in the gut and then drove her to the hospital — but stopped to pick up a beer along the way, according to local officials.

Decarlo Pitchford, 51, pulled the gun on his wife when they got into an argument on July 19 at their Tennessee home after the woman threatened to leave him, Law and Crime reported.

“I told you stop playing with me,” he allegedly said before pulling the trigger of his Ruger handgun.

Pitchford popped one 9mm slug into the abdomen of his wife and then played the role of dutiful husband and drove her towards Methodist University Hospital in his Dodge Ram.

On the way to the emergency room, Pitchford stopped to pick himself up a beer, according to a Shelby County District Attorney’s Office Facebook post. Police didn’t say exactly where he stopped or for how long.

Pitchford claimed to police that he thought the gun was jammed and fired it accidentally, but the victim stated the shooting was intentional, according to the report.

He was charged with attempted murder in the second degree, domestic assault, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and theft of property, court records revealed.
