‘Paramedics are currently on the scene. A high angle rescue is underway,’ Ambulance Victoria said in a statement. It confirmed the man had suffered injuries to his lower body.

A spokesperson from Fire Rescue Victoria said its firefighters had treated the man before transferring him to Ambulance Victoria.

He was moved onto the stretcher before being slowly winched down to safety.

The man was then transferred to Royal Melbourne Hospital.

He is believed to be in a stable condition but the extent of his injuries are not yet known.

It is the latest incident involving a collapsing crane in Melbourne after a large piling rig from a neighbouring building site slammed into the roof of Frankston Hospital in Melbourne’s south on November 22.

The collapse of the rig, which is used to create foundation columns, occurred about 10am causing significant damage to the building.

About 50 people including the hospital’s psychiatric ward were reportedly been evacuated.
