A man is fighting for life after he was allegedly stabbed in front of shocked bystanders near a busy tram stop in Melbourne CBD.
It’s understood he was allegedly stabbed following a verbal altercation with another man on Elizabeth Street around 9.20pm on Wednesday night.
The man, aged in his 30s was rushed to hospital with critical injuries.
The other man, 21, was arrested at the scene and is still being questioned by police. No charges have yet been laid.

It’s not known whether the two men were known to each other or if it was a random attack.
The Melbourne CBD was packed with people at the time including Robbie Williams concertgoers heading home.
Victorian Police have launched an investigation as the tram stop was cordoned off as a crime scene.
Forensic officers spent the night examining the scene.
