The sky above Melbourne turned black minutes after a severe storm warning was issued for the city and surrounds this morning.
Multiple communities are bracing for heavy rain and flash flooding has been observed in Melbourne.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) issued the alert after 8am on Thursday.
Up to 21mm of rain was recorded at Anakie in just 30 minutes.
An update, posted at 9.25am, said the storms are over the eastern suburbs and tracking further to the east.
“Flash flooding has been observed with storms moving through Melbourne,” BoM said.

The BoM said the severe storms were detected on the weather radar near Footscray, Melton, Sunbury and waters off Altona beach at 8.35am.
They were forecast to affect Caulfield, Craigieburn, Dandenong, Glen Waverley, Melbourne City, Preston and Ringwood by 9.05am and Pakenham, Scoresby and Whittlesea by 9.35 am.
Storms are also likely for New South Wales today, but no warnings have been issued.
