Heavily-armed police are negotiating with a man after he barricaded himself inside a home in Melbourne’s northeast. 

Up to 20 officers from the critical response unit set up camp outside a home on Liberty Parade in Heidelburg West on Tuesday morning. 

It’s understood the man barricaded himself inside a home at 7.20am. 

Negotiations with the man are ongoing. 

The public have been told to stay away from the home. 

However, police say there are no ongoing threats to the community. 

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Victoria Police about the incident.
