A plane has made an emergency landing at Melbourne airport after reports of a smoke coming from the cockpit.

More than a dozen fire and emergency trucks awaited the REX airlines aircraft on the runway at Tullamarine Airport.

A spokeswoman from Victoria Police said the incident was triggered after the smell of smoke was reported coming from the cockpit. 

‘The plane has landed safely and taxied down the runway,’ she said.
