A man allegedly punched a female aged care worker in the head and upper body after she followed him to ask why he was inside the Melbourne retirement village.

The 27-year-old staffer was left with bruises and scratches after allegedly being hit several times during the attack at the village on Wells Road in Aspendale Gardens about 7.30am on July 6.

Police are still searching for the man, who entered the building and walked upstairs to a bin room, where the alleged attack occurred.
