McDonald’s, SNY going all in on ‘Grimace Effect’ as Mets’ win streak rolls on

The Mets are winning, and McDonald’s is lovin’ it.

After the fast food chain’s 53-year-old affable purple character, Grimace, threw out the first pitch at Citi Field last Wednesday, the Mets have subsequently rattled off seven consecutive wins, the latest of which came in come-from-behind fashion on Tuesday night in Texas.

With the Mets’ success, McDonald’s has joined in on the fun on social media, changing their entire X account to feature Grimace and Mets logos.

The worldwide restaurant’s account now has a profile picture that features Grimace in a Mets hat that also has a tiny No. 55 on it — the same number on the City Connect jersey the Mets gave him last week.

The company’s banner photo on X also has Grimace wearing a Mets hat and pulling a red-painted wagon that is carrying a Mets logo.

McDonald’s bio now has a Mets-centric focus.

“mets go let’s,” it reads.

After the Mets’ 7-6 victory over the Rangers, the account — which took Grimace’s voice — posted twice.

“the grimacee effectt im flattereddd,” the account wrote before adding another post with a signed baseball with Grimace’s autograph on it.

“i had a balll today lollll,” the second post read.

SNY, the Mets’ TV home, even got in the fun on Tuesday, posting a video on X that featured Edwin Diaz’s entrance from the bullpen at Citi Field with the now-famous song “Narco,” but instead of just showing the closer, Grimace was superimposed over his body.

The ending of the clip actually showed the character throwing out the first pitch at the Mets’ home ballpark.

According to Forbes, the idea between the Mets and the Grimace partnership dated back to last year, but it finally came to fruition this June.

“I feel like Grimace is just so much fun and beloved, and that’s what we’re looking to do here, is to bring that kind of fun to the ballpark and make people excited to be here,” Mets social media manager Janey Murray told the outlet. “I think it was a good matchup of those things.”

Grimace even got some of the spotlight at Globe Life Field in Arlington on Tuesday night as X user, @alsostphenking posted photos and videos of themselves watching the Mets’ win in a purple sweater with the character’s face.

If the Mets, who are now a half-game out of a National League wild-card spot, continue to win, there will surely be more smiles than grimaces on the faces of their fans.
