A young eshay has been pictured car surfing through a McDonald’s drive-thru in Sydney.

Photos of the moment captured on Saturday night show the young man sitting on the back of a Subaru BRZ, with his legs wedged under the spoiler at McDonald’s in Waterloo, located south of Sydney’s CBD.

The man appears to have made it past the cashier window of the drive-thru and is just metres away from receiving food.

‘In accordance with McDonald’s safety guidelines, customers must follow road rules while visiting McDonald’s drive-thru,’ a spokesperson for McDonald’s told Daily Mail Australia.

‘This includes remaining in their vehicle.’

Car surfing was made a punishable offence in 2004, after a parliamentary inquiry into the activity was passed.

Prior to the inquiry, car surfing was technically legal due to a loophole in legislation.

The inquiry described car surfing as: ‘a dangerous activity of vehicle occupants (typically young people) that can cause severe injuries or death’.

‘Sometimes this is done as a game or challenge to see who can stay on the longest and land on your feet when the car or ute suddenly stops or turns,’ the Joint Standing Committee on Road Safety said.

‘Vehicle occupants ride on the bonnet, roof, or boot lid of moving cars, stand up and balance in the tray of utes, or hold to or are towed by vehicles while skateboarding or roller blading.’

Transport for NSW statistics show three people were killed from car surfing and 130 people were injured between 2012 and 2016.

The most recent death was of a 15-year-old girl who died from fatal injuries in 2020, after falling from the roof of a moving car in Perth.
