Tampa mayor Jane Castor saved the location of the find on her watch as her family hauled the microwave-sized package out of the water onto their boat, and contacted the local sheriff’s office to report the drugs.
Border Patrol agents took custody of the drugs when the Castors returned to shore.
The package, discovered in the Florida Keys on July 23, contained 25 bricks of cocaine.
“My family was concerned,” Castor told local media, saying that someone on the boat had exclaimed: “Oh my gosh, what if they think it’s ours?”

In 2009, she became Tampa’s first female Chief of Police, serving for six years.
