Mayor Adams bends the knee on trans madness

Come on, Mayor Adams: Your city is facing an unprecedented migrant crisis and a social fabric ripped apart by crime and economic malaise, and you still somehow have time to virtue signal on gender insanity?

The mayor on Monday moved to beef up his prog credentials — dinged by his pragmatic views on crime and illegal migration — by announcing he’d signed an executive order helping doctors end-run the laws in their own states around “gender affirming” treatment.

This is meant to somehow “protect” LGBTQ people from an “onslaught of attacks” by “states across the nation.”

Hmmm: This “onslaught” is largely an effort to restrict cross-sex hormones and surgery for kids — “treatments” that data increasingly show to be tragically mistaken.

Across Europe the most reputable medical institutions have moved sharply away from gender treatments for minors because of the risks they bring, which include loss of bone density, sterility and sexual dysfunction — with zero real benefit.

So to insist that pumping kids full of hormones and even surgically removing healthy body parts is somehow life-saving is contrary to science and basic common sense.

And the New York fight is 100% about kids.

Simultaneous with Adams’ move, the State Education Department issued guidelines emphasizing that schools’ “paramount consideration” is that a student’s gender identity is affirmed, even if that means concealing a transition from parents.

It’s a sad way to mark Pride Month: kids ID’ing as trans may be gay but need time figuring that out; the last thing they need is propaganda in the name of trans rights promising magical “medical” answers that will needlessly distort the rest of their lives — because of a decision they made while still a child.

Americans know this, by the way: 61% think gender reassignment surgeries should be banned (even if the kid’s parents OK it).

Adams has the courage to buck the left on other major social issues. Instead of bending the knee on this one, he should be doing as he has on the others, and taking a hard look at the facts.
