Matildas captain Sam Kerr has confirmed she will line up against Canada in Melbourne on Monday night in the must win World Cup clash.

Kerr, 29, is yet to feature in the tournament after injuring her calf days out from Australia’s Group B opener versus the Republic of Ireland.

Kerr told reporters in Brisbane on Saturday afternoon she will be on the team sheet.

But the Matildas captain would not say if she will start the match or come off the bench.

‘I’m definitely going to be available,’ she said.

Matildas coach Tony Gustavsson is under pressure to get his team a result against Canada

‘But how we decide to use that is not to be given to the opposition….that is the main thing.’

The decision to keep Kerr’s injury a closely guarded secret has attracted plenty of criticism.

Under pressure coach Tony Gustavsson has claimed it was purely tactical.

The Matildas need to win on Monday in Melbourne to avoid being bundled out at the group stage.

Mary Fowler will be a welcome addition after missing the clash against the Africans due to concussion.

The young gun is tipped to partner Caitlin Foord up front if Kerr isn’t named to start the clash against the Olympic champions.

If passed fit to play by the Matildas medical staff, it is unlikely Kerr would get through 90 minutes.

The superstar striker is yet to participate in a team training session and has been spotted walking with a compression bandage on her left calf.
