Is Moms for Liberty a “hate group” on the order of the KKK?
The Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Committee thinks so. Not even the infamously anti-sanity NGO, the Southern Poverty Law Center, which never saw a conservative-leaning group it didn’t despise, has gone so far as to label Moms for Liberty a hate group, although they do call them “extremist.”
“The SPLC is impetuously sloppy with their hate list which provides no useful information to anyone, save for the SPLC’s fund-raising efforts,” Glenn T. Stanton told the @DailySignal.

When even the SPLC can’t conjure up enough evidence to indict you as a hate group, your worst crime is loving puppies and kittens. After all, PragerU and Focus on the Family make it into the hate group category.
Yet police officers in Massachusetts are told to be on the lookout for moms who don’t like drag queens fondling their kindergarten children. They may be armed and dangerous.
The parental rights movement grew out of the COVID-19 pandemic, when schools remained closed and required students to wear face masks late into 2020 and 2021, and when remote learning allowed parents to see that schools had been teaching their children divisive gender and racial lessons. The SPLC and many teachers unions champion such lessons.
“While Gov. Maura Healey and the Massachusetts Teachers Union are busy stream-rolling our children’s educational futures to enact their far-left agendas, the MassGOP is focused on recruiting concerned parents to run as Republicans up and down the ballot in 2026,” Carnevale added.
Moms for Liberty got their start during the COVID pandemic, fighting for the extremist position that schools should be open, annoying the teachers’ unions and many school board members. You recall that they were so scary that the FBI also called them potential terrorists, colluding with Virginia school board members to shut them down for wanting their children to be in school and learning radical things like math and reading, not how to get their genitals chopped off.
Horrors.
The Municipal Training Committee did not respond to The Daily Signal’s request for comment by publication time, but a spokesperson stood by the training in a statement to GBH News.
The representative said the curriculum “draws on a broad range of open-source materials and activity happening across Massachusetts to expose officers to the perspectives they may encounter in the field while emphasizing respectful, unbiased engagement with all members of the public.”
The SPLC did not respond to The Daily Signal’s request for comment, but an SPLC research analyst, speaking to GBH News, praised the training committee for including Moms for Liberty in the curriculum.
Moms for Liberty’s crimes? Asserting their Constitutionally protected rights. Seriously. And the police training center cites this as proof that they are anti-government, because sitting down, shutting up, and doing what you are told by insane government officials is every citizen’s duty.
But state officials note that the Southern Poverty Law Center identifies Moms for Liberty as an“antigovernment organization” with links to extremist movements.
The Municipal Police Training Committee provides instruction and syllabi for more than 20,000 full time and part time police officers in the state. A state official told GBH that the curriculum “includes reference to groups such as Mothers for Liberty and others, not to ascribe labels, but to help officers recognize movements that may influence community dynamics, public discourse, or protest activity.”
Moms for Liberty claims that the training committee syllabus said the organization uses parents’ rights to make schools less welcoming for minority and LGBTQ students. The group frames its work as a broad effort to help parents who are concerned about books that feature LGBTQ characters and that focus on America’s fraught racial history.
The group has launched a public campaign on right wing media to bring attention to the dispute with Massachusetts, with co-founder Tina Descovich appearing recently on Steve Bannon’s “War Room” podcast and the Daily Wire’s YouTube broadcast.
“We have parental rights that were given to us by God,” she told the Daily Wire’s hosts. “We have parental rights that have been affirmed by the Supreme Court of the United States that we can opt out of some of these things or opt into other curriculum.”
This is the Critical Theory method of redefining words to refer to a moral framework that is recognizable to most people-such as ‘extremist’ and ‘hate group’-while inserting new meanings to smear anyone they dislike. Citizens petitioning their government peacefully to change policies that the left likes are labeled “terrorists” by leftists, or Nazis, or called extremist hate groups.
As morally offensive as that is, when groups like the SPLC do this, it is Constitutionally protected speech that must be countered with speech; when government agencies–especially law enforcement agencies–do this, it is a dangerous step down the road to totalitarianism.
Merrick Garland and Homeland Security did this during the Biden administration, and not only did it lead to insanities such as labeling traditional Catholics as national security threats, but it also led to Trump supporters being denied FEMA assistance after natural disasters.

Now, Moms for Liberty supporters have to worry that every police officer in Massachusetts has been trained to look at them as dangerous extremists. This is not just insulting–it is physically dangerous to them. When police officers are put on heightened alert, bad things can happen to the targets.
In Massachusetts, under Maura Healey’s leadership, the Municipal Police Training Committee isn’t backing down. They have fired a shot across the bow, and the next shot may be literal and aimed at a mom or dad just trying to get their kid a decent education.
The goal is obvious: create a climate of fear that forces opponents of the leftist agenda to remain silent and submit. With the censorship complex under attack by Donald Trump, Blue cities and states are using even more repressive tactics to shut people up.
