Mary Fowler posts dazzling selfies but not everyone is impressed as fans criticise her new look while Nathan Cleary is conspicuously absent from comments

Mary Fowler may have been unable to attend the GQ Awards alongside Nathan Cleary last week, but the Matildas star still dazzled with a daring new look in a selfie uploaded to Instagram.

Fowler, 21, was in Canada last week on international duty with Australia while her NRL beau Cleary slightly awkwardly hit the red carpet by himself back home in Sydney for the glamorous awards night on Wednesday. 

The Matildas are reeling from back-to-back defeats by the Olympic gold medallists, with manager Tony Gustavsson under increasing scrutiny to turn things around.

But Fowler put her national team turmoil to one side over the weekend, sending her 375,000 followers will with a kissing selfie uploaded on Sunday morning.

Wearing a white shoulderless dress, Fowler puckers up to camera while wearing a daring red lipstick. 

Unsurprisingly, Cleary was asked about his new romance when he attended the GQ Awards on Wednesday.

‘I knew this was coming,’ he said to The Daily Telegraph, quickly turning red.

‘I’m just here by myself… No plus-one.

‘She’s busy’. 

The Panthers star grinned while being snapped but it was noticeable that he did not have Fowler by his side. 

Fowler recently posted a cryptic poem which described life’s ‘awful moments’, with fans concerned it could be connected to her tryst with Cleary.

She shared a poem from renowned author LR Knost, which focused on the complexities humans face each day. 

Readers are encouraged by Knost to ‘breathe in the amazing’ and ‘exhale during the ordinary’ moments. 

Fans of the couple have been looking for signs of how they’ve been keeping in touch despite the huge distance between them.

Cleary and Fowler still regularly ‘like’ each other’s posts on Instagram.
