Marijuana dispensary security guard fatally shoots man who stabbed him with axe, CPD says

CHICAGO (WLS) — Police are investigating a deadly incident at a marijuana dispensary in Chicago’s Greektown neighborhood Monday morning.

Chicago police said a male suspect hit a security guard with an axe during an argument outside the Zen Leaf Dispensary in the 200-block of S. Halsted around 10:05 a.m.

A struggle then ensued and the guard fired shots, police said.

The suspect was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, where he died, police said. He has not yet been identified.

The security guard was taken to Northwestern Hospital in good condition with lacerations to his leg.

Area Three detectives are investigating. Police have not yet released a motive in the attack.
