A man’s body has been found burnt out in a car in northern NSW.

Emergency services were called to the scene after smoke was seen coming from bushland on Simpsons Ridge Road in South Arm, about 25km west of Nambucca Heads, at 2pm yesterday.

“A car was found on fire at the scene with the nearby scrub also alight,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“After NSW Rural Fire Service firefighters extinguished the blaze, a man’s body was found inside the vehicle.”

A post-mortem examination is being conducted to confirm the man’s identity but police are speaking with the family of an 86-year-old man.

He was last seen driving the car in Macksville about 11am that day.

Investigations are ongoing.
