A major manhunt is under way after a cross-border police chase left an officer in hospital.

Police began pursuing a suspected stolen Land Rover in Murwillumbah in NSW late this afternoon.

It’s believed the vehicle reversed into a police car on the M1 at Currumbin, across the border on the Gold Coast.

A highway patrol officer was taken to hospital. He is believed to be in a stable condition.

The occupant of the suspected stolen vehicle was believed to have fled.

The dog squad has been called in to search the area.

No arrests have been made.
