An Uber driver allegedly had his car stolen while at a carwash on Atchison Road in Macquarie Fields at 3.30 am overnight.
It’s understood he had just finished work when a trio approached the man and threatened him with a knife, taking his phone and wallet before two of the men took his car.
The third man followed the car on a scooter, police allege.
The 48-year-old man walked to Macquarie Fields Police Station and reported the alleged theft.
Police said he was “distressed” but uninjured.
“It’s extremely brazen, to be armed with knives and threaten a man and then take his vehicle… a vehicle which the man actually uses as his livelihood,” NSW Police Chief Inspector Dean Johnstone said.
About 45 minutes later, a woman called Triple Zero saying she had been in a car accident on Copperfield Drive in Ambravale.
The woman described two people fleeing from the car and a third person leaving on a scooter.
Police say the car involved in the crash matched the description of the vehicle stolen from the carwash.
She is being treated for chest injuries, caused by the impact of the airbag.
Two crime scenes have been set up while police search for the accused.
All three people of interest have been described as wearing black clothing their their faces covered.
Anyone with dashcam vision of Atchison Road to Copperfield Drive between 3.30am-4.30am are urged to contact police.
