Just after 7.30am yesterday, police and emergency services were called to an alleged stabbing at a home at Fairfield.
Police were told on arrival a 54-year-old woman had been taken to hospital by a family member to be treated for a serious laceration to her throat.
She has undergone surgery and remains in hospital in a serious condition.

A large knife was seized at the Fairfield home and a 57-year-old man arrested..
He was charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder.
The man was refused bail to appear at in court today.
